Discover all of the special features of the region on a single mountain bike route - La Barillette Bike makes it possible. After an ascent from Chéserex through the forest, you can enjoy the magnificent view of lake Geneva and the alps . The technically demanding part of the route takes you past St-Cergue back to Trélex.
The route starts at the sports centre of Chéserex and later dives into the forests of the La Côte region. Here, the ascent towards La Barillette begins. The forest paths are steep in places. But that's not the only reason to take a break now and then: while pedalling up the 1000 metres of altitude, a beautiful view of the valley opens up again and again between the trees. After the serpentines, the path climbs further up to the 122-metre-high La Barillette transmission tower. The wooded hilltop is in front of La Dôle. The highest point of the route at 1,500 metres is reached at this point. And the reward is impressive: one of the most beautiful panoramas of the whole region awaits you here. The entire arc of lake Geneva lies at your feet, overlooked by the alps and the majestic Mont Blanc.
Afterwards, the descent follows the road that leads to the Restaurant de la Barillette (reservation recommended). On the terrace, you can enjoy the view once again accompanied by regional delicacies. After the break, concentration is required: the descent is now technically more demanding. A short stretch across a pasture is followed by a scree field requiring some skill. The trail then leads via Guinfard along forest paths to the clearing at the "Vieux Château", once more with a magnificent panorama.
The next stop is St-Cergue, located in the regional nature park "Jura vaudois". In the mid-19th century, the Jura village developed into a high-altitude health resort. Today, it is a popular hiking and cross-country skiing area. The second part of the descent continues through the forest with playfully alternating forest paths and single trails. Finally, you follow the edge of the forest on narrow roads back to the starting point.
