Originating in the North, cross-country skiing is popular in Switzerland with both tourists and locals. Gentler than downhill skiing, this winter sport is quick to learn and takes place on adapted trails, without any special facilities. This natural setting appeals to beginners or seasoned skiers.
In the Vaudois Jura Regional Park, the Saint-Cergue region has all the natural assets for cross-country skiing. Skiers of all abilities find trails to suit them, crossing wooded pastures or climbing to an altitude of 1,350 m.
La Givrine (1,208 m) is the starting point for many routes linking Saint-Cergue, La Cure or even the Vallée de Joux with a spectacular trail to the Marchairuz pass. Along the way, chalets, alpine meadow cafes or mountain restaurants offer well-deserved refreshment in a typical local atmosphere.
