Born in 1967, Emmanuel Herz is a painter and visual arts teacher who creates mixed media paintings. By mixing acrylics, inks, watercolours and pastels, he creates fantastical worlds: fiery landscapes with silhouettes of medieval castles and mysterious ruins, abyssal depths, shafts of light, fascinating jellyfish, strange calligraphy...
For Emmanuel Herz, a work of art must be able to create a feeling from emptiness, and also be capable of letting the brain construct its own representation of reality, in the manner of pareidolia, which makes us see sheep in the clouds... Whether they are very simple in graphic appearance or, on the contrary, rich in almost microscopic detail, his paintings must be able to be seen each time in a new light and evoke new sensations and associations of ideas.
Active for several years, he has exhibited in Chamonix (Salon des Créateurs, Majestic Palace), at the Journées du Patrimoine (Château d'Avully, Brenthonne, France), at Pop-Culture festivals (Arcana Festival in Morges, Fantasy Basel), at the Automnales (Japan Manga Family) and is currently on show at Café Remor, Geneva, as part of his "Fascinantes méduses" exhibition (on view until 23 March 2024). In Nyon, he will be exhibiting at the bookshop Le Lotus Bleu from mid-April 2024, with a particular focus on his steampunk-influenced drawings.
