The Swiss National Museum welcomes you to their permanent exhibition entitled: What is Switzerland?
The oldest democracy in the world, a major financial centre and perpetual armed neutrality: is this Switzerland, or is it just a series of clichés? This exhibition looks at these myths and compares them with the daily lives of the Swiss people, from the 18th century to the present day.
Each room deals with a theme that is important for understanding the Switzerland of yesterday and today: identity, territory, family and the role of women, as well as work and democracy.
Aimed at younger generations in particular, this new presentation lets their voices be heard alongside the testimonies of those who have contributed to Switzerland's prosperity since the end of the 19th century. In conclusion, the audience is invited to reflect on one of the myths that is still relevant today: that of ‘Swiss happiness’!
